RWE’s 151MW Peyton Creek wind farm in US begins operations

Located in Texas’s Matagorda County, the Peyton Creek wind farm is equipped with 48 Nordex 3.15MW turbines. The project can produce electricity that will be sufficient to power more than 45,000 homes.

RWE Renewables CEO Anja-Isabel Dotzenrath said: “The completion of this project is an important statement of our intent to grow our portfolio of renewables projects.

“With our experience and expertise, we are well-positioned to take advantage of changing dynamics in the renewable energy industry.

“Peyton Creek is our 24th wind project in North America. That underlines the importance of North America as a focus market for RWE.

“Our long-term operation of this wind farm will deliver clean, low-cost energy to south Texas. We appreciate the support of the local community for the project.”

With the Peyton Creek wind farm becoming operational, RWE’s total installed wind generating capacity in the US is reported to have increased to 4,000MW.

RWE’s US-installed capacity represents over a third of its renewables capacity.

The company’s other onshore wind farms in the US such as the 220MW Cranell and 440MW Big Raymond facilities located in Texas’s Cameron and Hidalgo counties, and the 150MW Boiling Springs project in Oklahoma, are currently under various stages of construction.

Last November, E.ON signed an agreement to purchase clean energy from RWE Renewables’ British wind farms.
